Cadillac High School 5th 1345

The high school bowling season culminated Saturday with the individual State Finals. The format was six games of qualifying followed by two game sets for match play. 60 bowlers competed Saturday and only the top 16 qualified for match play. We had three bowlers competing; Kyle Vermilyea, Dylan Vermilyea, and Korbin Keller. The first game went about as well as we could have expected with Dylan rolling 214, Kyle had 220, and Korbin bowled a 231. That would be the highlight of the day for Keller as he struggled down the stretch and found himself outside of match play. Kyle and Dylan both continued the good bowling on their way to making the top 16. Kyle finished as the number 2 seed with an impressive 1345 for six games and Dylan was the 6th seed at 1260.
Dylan faced a familiar foe in Alex Triggs from Owosso. The first game was a thriller, with Dylan striking out the tenth frame to close the deficit to just 3 pins, 226-223. In the second game Dylan ran into a little trouble early and ultimately fell to miss the second round. He finished his season as a second team all state selection.
Kyle started his match play run against a Jackson Northwest bowler that bested is in the team final the day before. After a really well bowled first game, Kyle took a 20 pin lead 247-227. He was able to put the pressure on to start the second game and coast to the win by another 30 pins. The second match pitted him against Dan Frey from Grand Rapids Northview. Kyle left a few pins out there in the first game to trail by 28, 210-182. Kyle came back strong in game two with a 257 but Frey matched him frame for frame and posted 258 himself to knock Kyle off in 5th place. Kyle ends his season as a first team all state selection, making it three straight years as a first team all state member.
