We have qualified well all year but just haven’t been able to break through for the win in every tournament we’ve bowled this year. We got the monkey off our back today. We won the Sturgis Trojan Invitational against a pretty stacked field. The tournament this week had 5 teams ranked in the top ten in division 2. We didn’t qualify as well as we have at other times this year, but we were able to beat out the fourth ranked team from Pennfield to make it into the top 4 for match play. The first round of match play, we faced off against the number two ranked team Owosso. It was a nail biter down to the end, but we held on for the win, by just five pins. In the title match, we faced off against number one ranked Sturgis, the host of the tournament. After the 2 baker games, we were chasing 12 pins for the regular games. After a rocky start, the boys really started firing on all cylinders, and despite a rough tenth frame, we were able to win it going away. Everyone stepped up at various times, but Kyle Vermilyea put the team on his back all day, including a 264 with 11 strikes in the final game.
