High School Cross Country · Both Cross Country Teams Advance to Regionals, Schopieray Breaks School Record

It was an exciting Monday night for the Cadillac Cross Country teams — not only did both the boys and girls teams qualify for the Regional finals but Junior Kendall Schopieray set a new school record for the Vikings. The pre-regional race took place at Benzie Central where the top four teams advance to Regional Finals on Halloween day.

For the girls’ team, they placed second behind Petoskey. The Northmen tallied 22 points while Cadillac scored 40. Whitehall and Ogemaw Heights also qualified. Schopieray finished second overall — and couldn’t believe her time when she made the final turn into the finish line. She set the girl’s cross country school record — finishing in 18:12.86 — that eclipses 2009 graduate Kaitlyn Patterson’s previous record of 18:15.
Chloie Musta finished fourth in 18:23 while Gwen Phillips took ninth in 19:26, Ellie Cool 11th in 19:40, Marisa Mazza 14th in 19:42, Heather Eller 15th in 19:42 and Oakley Mickelson 20th in 20:23.

Petoskey also won the title on the boys’ side with 25 points while Whitehall finished second with 76 points, Cadillac third at 84 and Gaylord fourth at 85. Freshman Nolan Nixon led the Vikings with an eighth place finish in 17:01 while Carson Carlington took 14th in 17:51, Jackson Hilt 15th in 17:52, Logan Boolman 23rd in 18:21, Brayden Oberhaus 24th in 18:26, Gavin Phillips 31st in 18:33 and Michael Gottleber 38th in 19:14.

The Vikings will race in the Regional final at Benzie on October 31st.
