The varsity girls basketball team found themselves in a familiar situation from a year ago — the Vikings played Standish-Sterling both years in the Regional semi-final game. Cadillac beat the Panthers by 22 points last year.. this year the Vikings came out on top by just three points. The win allows them to play for the Regional trophy on Thursday.
Much like last week, Cadillac got off to a slow start early in the first quarter but battled back to close the gap to one at the end of the first eight minutes. The Vikings got their biggest lead of the game mid-way through the second quarter, up nine, before the Panthers got right back in it. It was 26-23 going into halftime — and those three points were the difference in the end as both Cadillac and Standish-Sterling scored 14 points apiece in the second half. Cadillac won 40-37.
Molly Anderson led the Vikings with a double-double consisting of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Makenna Bryant scored ten for Cadillac and Livi Meyer hit three 3’s for a total of nine points on the night.
Cadillac plays Sault Ste. Marie (21-1) on Thursday at Gaylord. Tip-off is at 7:00pm — winner advances to the Quarterfinal game next Tuesday at Houghton Lake High School.
