It’s one and done at this point in the season and the boys baseball team is clearly not ready to be done. The Vikings played in their first Regional Semi-Final game in eight years, and now advance to the Regional Final game on Saturday – something the 2011 team was not able to do. Cadillac and BNC-foe Petoskey battled back and forth on Wednesday but the Vikings came out on top, 7-6 at the end of seven innings.
Cadillac jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead after the first inning but Petoskey rallied back in the second and then tied it in the third, 5-5. Cadillac went back up by one in the top of the fourth but Petoskey again tied it in the bottom, 6-6. It all came down to the seventh inning. Senior Cale Mickelson led off with a double. Allan Scheurer laid down a sac bunt to move Mickelson to third but he ended up scoring what would be the game-winning run on a throwing error by Petoskey. In the bottom of the inning with one out, the Vikings turned a double play to win the game.
Mickelson pitched five innings for Cadillac, allowing three earned runs while striking out one. Scheurer got the win in relief, allowing one walk in two innings.
At the plate, Mickelson recorded two doubles and an RBI while Alex Netzley had two hits. Isaac Heyd and Scheurer each added one hit and an RBI while Jaykob Smith had one hit and Ryan Cox had an RBI.
Cadillac will play in the Regional Final game this Saturday at Saginaw Valley State University. The game will be played at 10:00am. The winner will advance to the SuperRegional game (formerly known as Quarterfinals), also on Saturday at SVSU at 3:00pm.
