Cadillac High School is proud to announce the recipients for the outstanding male and female athlete award for the Class of 2019. The top female receives the Lynda Terrill Award, while the top male vote-getter is selected for the George Mills Award. Nominations are made by the senior class and from that list are voted on by head coaches and administrators. Nominees must maintain at least a C average in the classroom and have earned at least two varsity letters in their High School career.
The 2019 recipient of the Lynda Terrill Award is Sanna Meyjes. Sanna is a four year varsity soccer player. She earned first team All-Conference in 2018 and was also selected to the All-District, All-Region, and All-Academic team last year. Sanna served as co-captain this season. Her coach says Sanna has shown remarkable leadership skills all four years and leads by example on and off the field.
She is a three year scholar athlete and has maintained a 3.8655 GPA throughout her high school career. This fall she will be attending Grand Valley State University to study Physical Therapy.
This year’s recipient of the George Mills Award is Alex Netzley. Alex is a three sport athlete and has earned 11 varsity letters. He was a member of the varsity soccer team all four years. He was selected to the Cadillac News dream team, Big North Conference team, and Record Eagle team the last two years. He was also named to the All-District and All-Regional team in 2018 as well as All-State Honorable Mention as a Senior.
In the winter you can find him dominating out on the ski hill. It’s hard to keep track of all of the titles he has earned as a four year member of the ski team. The most notable, though, include two-time State Champion in Giant Slalom… four-time regional champion in GS along with three-time Regional Champion in Slalom. He has earned first team All-State honors all four years.
Alex has been a member of the varsity baseball team for three years. He was named to the BNC All-Conference team and Cadillac News All Area team in both 2017 and 2018.
Alex is a three year scholar athlete and has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout his high school career. He will continue his education at the University of Michigan this Fall where he will study Engineering.
Congratulations to both Sanna and Alex – your hard-work and dedication to athletics and academics over the last four years has not gone unnoticed!
