The girls and boys track teams finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Big North Conference this year. The teams competed in the final event of the year on Wednesday at TC Central. TC West won the girls’ title with 169.5 points.. Cadillac was fourth with 92 points. Alpena ran away with the title on the boys’ side, scoring 215 points.. Cadillac was fifth with 50 points.
Brooke Kochanny (discus) and Kendall Schopieray (800m run) were conference champions, both taking first in their events. Kochanny also took third in the shot put. Makenna Bryant placed second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles. The 4×400 relay team (Schopieray, Bryant, Maddie Guernsey, Chloie Musta) took third, as did the 4×800 team (Musta, Gabi Metzger, Heather Eller, Schopieray). Musta also placed third in the 800m run.
For the boys, the 4×800 relay team (Tim Carlington, Matt Brines, Derek Tonello, Zach Elmore) placed third, as did Dylan Fauble in discus.
Monday marks the 47th Annual Cadillac News Memorial Day track meet at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium. The meet will showcase the top track athletes in the surrounding areas. Admission is $5 per person (kids under 5 are free). Season passes cannot be used for this event. All gate sales help fund a college scholarship for the top male and female senior athlete of the day. Pole vault starts at 3:00, opening ceremonies will begin at 3:45 with the other field events starting at 4:00 and running events at 4:30.
