Girls Varsity Basketball · Cadillac Crowned District Champions!

It was not a game for the faint of heart. The varsity girls basketball team put themselves – and their fans – through a rollercoaster of emotions on Friday before stealing victory from Benzie at the buzzer, 35-34.

The Vikings started out strong, leading 11-0 half way through the first quarter. That lead didn’t hold up though, Benzie fought their way back to tie it at 11-all in the second. From there, Cadillac held a small lead the entire game until the final two minutes of the game. Benzie took a two point lead and had several chances to extend that lead but missed their free throws. Emmaline Rosenburg was fouled while rebounding, sending Cadillac to the line with a chance to tie with 4 seconds on the clock. Emmaline hit the first free throw. She missed the second but the ball went out of bounds off of Benzie giving Cadillac the ball under the basket with 3.4 seconds left. Makenna Bryant hit Makayla Knight for the game-winning lay-up at the buzzer!

The win sends the girls into the Regional Semi-finals tonight at home! The game starts at 7:00. Doors open at 6:00. All tickets are $6.00 – no passes are accepted during the MHSAA Tournament. The winner advances to the Regional Finals on Wednesday at Gaylord.

Bryant finished the game with 12 points and Molly Anderson scored ten.
