Take away the first period and the Cadillac hockey team looked pretty good Wednesday night. Unfortunately, they can’t take away those five first period goals.
Cadillac started the game off on the right track, scoring just 90 seconds into the game. Zakk Izzard scored off an assist from Brendan Phillips. After that, the Vikings committed two big penalties giving the Trojans a leg up and they took advantage by scoring four goals during their power-play. That gave TC Central a 5-1 lead after the first period.
The Vikings buckled down and fought back, scoring three goals in the second period. Brian Geiger scored off an assist from Derek Tonello. Alex Lietaert added a goal, assisted by Jack Schmittdiel and Hayden Watkins before Schmittdiel scored one of his own off assists from Lietaert and Allan Scheurer.
Cadillac added one more goal in the third when Tonello scored from Fisher Moore and Austin Pendrick but it wasn’t enough, the Trojans won 7-5.
Cadillac hosts Big Rapids next Wednesday in our annual Veteran’s Night game.
