If you look at the roster, they’re a young team. If you watched them play last night, they looked like a seasoned squad. The varsity girls basketball team opened the 2018-19 season with a 53-11 win over Reed City Tuesday night.
Olivia Meyer knocked down a 3-pointer on the first shot of the game – from there the team went on to hit eight three’s in the first half alone. It wasn’t all offense though; defensively, Cadillac held the Coyotes scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game. The Vikings led 36-6 at halftime and extended that lead to 53-11 by the end of the game.
The Vikings were led by sophomores Molly Anderson with 18 points, Macy Brown scored 12, and Meyer added ten points. On the defensive end, the Vikings held Reed City to one 3-point basket and one 2-point basket — along with six made free throws.
The JV girls basketball team also beat Reed City, 37 – 25. Emma McTaggart paced the Vikings with 13 points, Kendall Schopieray added 10.
The freshman girls beat Pine River on Monday, 26-23. Anna Whipple scored nine point and Abby Kovacevich added seven.
The freshman team plays Ogemaw Heights at home on Monday. The JV and Varsity teams travel to Manistee next Tuesday.
