They are a young team with a lot of experience. The Cadillac girls cross country team ran to a third place finish over the weekend, qualifying them to run at the state finals as a team.
Petoskey took first with 41 points, Fremont came in second with 76, and the Vikings finished third with 105 points.
Freshman Kendall Schopieray led the Vikings with a second place finish overall with a time of 18:42. Susie Huckle finished 15th in a time of 19:37, Gabi Metzger came in 27th at 20:21, Gwen Phillips 29th in 20:24, Chloie Musta 32nd in 20:34, Heather Eller 33rd in 20:35, and Ellah Santangelo finished 61st in a time of 21:42.
This will be Cadillac’s third straight appearance at the state finals for the girls. They will compete at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday.
The boys team didn’t fare as well. The Vikings took eight place on the day, led by Jared Denike who finished 22nd in a time of 16:59. Justin Denike finished 31st in 17:18, Tim Carlington 38th in 17:30, Abraham Apfel 49th in 17:41, Zach Elmore 50th in 17:49, Matt Brines 58th in 18:03, and Troy Miller finished 71st in 18:25.
The boys team graduates three seniors — Matt Brines, Zach Elmore, and Tim Carlington.
